Jeffrey Veen: MP3 Blogs and wget

This is one of the neatest little hacks I’ve seen in a while. And its an ingenious use of wget, too:: “So I run wget, give it the URLs to those mp3 blogs, and let it scrape all the new audio files it finds. Then I have it keep doing that on a daily basis, save everything into a big directory, and have a virtual radio station of hand-filtered new music. Neat.

Here’s how I do it:

wget -r -l1 -H -t1 -nd -N -np -A.mp3 -erobots=off -i ~/mp3blogs.txt”

I made one slight alteration to that: I created a one-line bash script file to make nabbing MP3s from an mp3 blog (or pretty much any other HTML page pointing to a list of MP3s) easy. The script is:

#!/bin/bash
wget -r -l1 -H -t1 -nd -N -np -A.mp3 -erobots=off $1

And that’s it! Make it executable, then run it with the url of the website/blog as its only paramater (e.g. mp3bloget http://example.com/mp3blog.html).
