apt-get install xserver-xorg

I noted in an entry yesterday that I installed x.org on my Debian Etch box, but would have to wait ’til I got home to try it out. Well, I did that, and boy am I impressed! The x.org install went flawlessly. And while I wasn’t expecting to see any differences, I immediately noticed a difference in speed for opening new windows. Windows seem to open much faster than under XFree86. Moving windows also seemed snappier.

I’ll be doing some more playing over the next few days, but I am already happy that I made the switch!

Floaters

Wow, and here I thought that I was insane. Floaters are real! “Floaters, or muscae volitantes (Latin: ‘flying flies’), are entoptic phenomena characterized by shadow-like shapes which appear singly or together with several others in one’s field of vision. They can take the form of spots, threads, or fragments of cobwebs, that float slowly before one’s eyes.”

Or, in other words, if you think you see things floating just inside your eyeball, you are right!
