Nasty memory leak bug in XFCE
There’s a really nasty memory leak bug (Bug 1042) in XFCE’s xfdesktop module. Apparently, this one doesn’t affect everyone, but I am one of the lucky few (yay for me!). xfdesktop slowly but surely continues to suck up more and more memory, usually in 2mb chunks. Within an hour or so, xfdesktop will be using 50% of the gig of RAM in my system. Within a day, nothing else cal run because xfdesktop has over 700mb of RAM in use.
This is especially harsh for me, since I loveXFCE! It’s by far my favorite desktop environment for Linux. But I can’t use XFCE right now. This bug is basically a deal breaker. So for now I’m making do with KDE locally, and fluxbox remotely. Hopefully sometime soon the XFCE team will squash this bug, and a week later the fix will enter into Etch.
