Quake IV will be released for Linux!!!

“Quake IV will be released for the Linux platform.
The dedicated server will be released around the same time as the Windows version. The linux client, might be delayed a week or two. Quake4 will use the Simple Direct Media Layer (SDL) backend for input and OpenGL on Linux. The low level sys code for Linux had been needing a good rewrite for several years, so it made sense to use SDL now.”


Xena has a moon!

Our solar system’s probably 10th planet, Xena, has a moon!

Xena, the possible 10th planet in our solar system, has its own moon, a dim little satellite called Gabrielle, its discoverers reported.

Astronomers who reported Xena’s discovery in July said they detected Xena’s sidekick on September 10 using the Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Their findings will be submitted to the Astrophysical Journal Letters on Monday.

Pity the name is so silly.

Sales of Digital Music Triple

The next time that someone from the RIAA tries to say that no one wants to buy digital music when they can pirate it, spit in their eye and point out that digital music sales now outstrip sales of CD-Singles! “Spurred by the iPod revolution, digital music sales totaled $790 million in the first half of this year, equivalent to 6 percent of industry sales, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry estimated in a report Monday.”
