Xubuntu – Ubuntu with XFCE!

Now here’s some excellent news: someone has realized just how awesome XFCE is, and how well it runs in Ubuntu, put 2 + 2 together and come up with Xubuntu .

Xfce4 has been supported in Ubuntu’s universe by the MOTUXfce team since Hoary and Breezy. For Dapper we want to go one step further and make Xubuntu a sibling of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Edubuntu by having install and live CD images generated for it. We haven’t decided on a release date, but it should be as close as possible to Dapper’s and should use the latest stable Xfce 4.X code (hopefully 4.4 will be release by then)

One of the best things about moving from Debian Etch to Ubuntu is being able to use XFCE again! Breezy has a version of XFCE 4.2 which does not have the memory hole, which caused me to abandon my beloved XFCE. So I am back. And I’m once again in love. XFCE is brilliant! I actually don’t know how I survived without it.
