Napster Free and Linux
Okay, I know that everyone in the world has already written about Napster’s decision to go with a free plan! Everyone’s seen this headline:
Can I Really Listen to Napster Music for Free?Yes. Here’s how it works. You can listen to every track in our 2,000,000 song catalog up to 5 times for FREE. That’s 10 million free plays! After the 5th free play of any single track, you can either purchase the track or become a Napster subscriber.
So why am I bothering to write about this, then? There’s one very cool thing that not many people have written about: the free Napster is 100% compatible with Linux! Well, it’s compatible with any operating system that can do Flash. I’ve been listening to songs on Napster all night, and am tickled pink that there’s a music service which actually works under Linux, and doesn’t require the installation of a plugin that can never actually install correctly (a la Rhapsody).
