apt-get install conky

The newest entry in Linux.com‘s awesome CLI Magic series reminded me of something I wanted to write about here: Conky! In case you don’t know what it is:
Conky is a lightweight system monitor that provides essential information in an easy-to-understand, highly customizable interface. The software is a fork of TORSMO, which is no longer maintained. Conky monitors your CPU usage, running processes, memory, and swap usage, and other system information, and displays the information as text or as a graph.
Or, if that doesn’t do it for you, think of Conky as a slimmer, trimmer, more configurable gkrellm or adesklets. Conky is text-based, so it is super fast and has a very small footprint. It is also amazingly customizable, as you can get Conky to display the output of any command you can come up with. The end result is some fun, relatively-easy-to-implement eye candy for any desktop.

Via Lifehacker: 15 ways to get more out of Pandora. I’ve posted about Pandora here multiple times, and each time I’ve mentioned how much I love this service. Turns out not only does Lifehacker love it, they have advice on how to get more out of Pandora!
There’s just so much you can do with music discovery engine Pandora: create your own personalized radio stations, find new, original music and share your stations with friends, just to list a few. But listening to Pandora can be a drag on your system, and its song recommendations can go off the rails if you’re not careful. This week I’ve got 15 ways to get better music – and better performance – out of Pandora.
The tips in that article are straight-forward, logical, and easy to implement. Well, aside from the silly Windows-only players, of course.
If you use Pandora, you owe it to yourself to read this article!
