3-D file system browsers

Okay, so viewing your filesystem in three dimensions isn’t as popular today as it was a few years go. It is still very, very cool, though, and it’s fun to pull out the viewers and give them a whirl:
Whether you’re searching for an unused nook in a cramped disk partition, or trying to find the bloated temp/ folder that’s crashing your system, sometimes the flat folder view of a traditional GUI file browser is little help. Luckily, Linux offers a variety of 3-D filesystem that can make your disk usage statistics come alive. (via linux.com)
The problem with 3-D viewing a filesystem is visual confusion. It’s almost impossible to coherently represent a modern filesystem in 3-D. Everything just comes out as a confusing mass of objects or blocks or balls. But this isn’t about usability, it’s about coolness. I especially like XCruiser’s starship motif. What’s not to like about flying a spaceship through the galaxies of your filesystem?
Must Have Treo Freeware Applications
First off, via Lifehacker, we have 12 killer apps for a Palm-based PDA:
Your Palm PDA can do a lot more than just contact and calendar management. Stock it with the right software and it can play music, stream RSS feeds, keep you entertained on the road, and even get you where you’re going.
There’s some good stuff on Lifehacker’s list. Some I already have on my Palm T|X (Pocket Tunes Deluxe) and some that I must immediately install (Numberz, Today).

While the list has a few Treo-only programs, most work on other PalmOS devices (including the truly amazing TCPMP media player). Plus, all the apps on Palm Info Center’s list are free!
As soon as I can find time, I’m gonna sync up my T|X and fire up some of these proggies. This should be a lot of fun!
New *good* WP plugin for YouTube
Okay, so it isn’t new anymore, but it is still a good WordPress plugin for embedded YouTube videos (via GeekLimit):
If you’re interested in putting videos in WordPress posts, [...] just head over toone [sic] of my personal favorite plugin guys, Viper007Bond, and download his Video Quicktags plugin. Same great functionality as my method, but with pretty buttons in the WYSIWYG editor!
While the buttons aren’t as pretty as we are led to believe, the functionality is great. Easy embedding of YouTube (and others) videos without having to turn off the WYSIWYG post editor in WordPress. Best of both worlds, baby!
